Hello from The Allison Inn & Spa Human Resources department. We are happy to start 2020 with a new quarterly employee spotlight opportunity. For the first quarter we have Sonja Rose, one of our amazing Licensed Massage Therapists opening up about her career and connection to The Allison. Enjoy!
Name: Sonja Rose
Position: Licensed Massage Therapist
Tenure with The Allison: 9 years
What lead you to become an LMT?
I was going to college and working on my degree; however, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do for a career yet. I knew I wanted to help people somehow, someway. My sister was going to a massage school and invited me to a career class. So, I went to support her. There was a raffle for a free massage class, and I won! I figured I would take the class just for fun, because I love school and I have a passion for learning new things. I really didn’t consider it for a career though. To my sweet surprise, I totally fell in love with massage after that first class! And I have totally loved every day of being a massage therapist since. From the very beginning I had a natural intuitive gift and tactile wisdom that I have cherished.
What about your position as a LMT do you love the most?
I actually love everything about being a massage therapist. The ability to help people on such personal and deep levels when they have been possibly suffering with chronic pain is truly a sacred blessing. As I am feeling the painful restrictions in the body releasing and their natural flow returning to a peaceful comfort, I am reminded every day of the power of love and why I love massage so much. And then, when people express how amazing they feel, I feel so much joy helping them return to goodness. Massage helps with so much of the body, soul and spirit. I am so grateful to have this profession to be able to help so many people.
In reference to The Allison Way philosophy, what aspect of it has had the most impact with you?
All of The Allison Way principles are valuable philosophies to implement for successful hospitality experiences for our guest; but these six, I personally believe are the most important to be the best service provider. These six principles most reflect my personal philosophies and my desire to be able help the people of our community most efficiently. As I work with each and every guest, I give them my full efforts to help them with the very best possible experience and restore healing.
9 years is a long time, what makes The Allison an employer of choice for you?
The Allison has a beautiful atmosphere; its environment is perfect for any celebration and respite. With all of the amenities and treatments available to be able to hone the art of healing and rest, I am able to create a purely blissful experience for my guest.
I especially love meeting with all of our guests from our local community, from around the country and the world. Daily, the abundant opportunities to connect with so many amazing people are a true blessing I cherish the most. I get to hear their interesting stories or peacefully help them rest.
Similarly, I love being a part of The Allison team because the people I work with are like family to me. The team is amazing because the entire staff is so friendly and welcoming. Every one supports and helps each other during good achievements and difficult situations, not only in professional situations but also with personal concerns. It is so comforting to have such a great support system that helps each other while contributing so much to the community. I am truly grateful for all the people I have worked alongside of throughout the 9 years.
Would you recommend The Allison as a place to work? and why?
Yes, I definitely recommend The Allison as a place to work. The Allison is an excellent resource with abundance of opportunities for personal growth and community contributions. The Austin family and the entire Allison team has been such an important asset to our community. It is so exciting and an honor to be a part of such a valuable team that has developed the community in a significant way.
